Because each different circumstances, different purposes, in addition to photography skills, the lens also plays a role far more important. I show you how to use the <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm lens</a>.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>How to Use any 35mm Lens</b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh33CEax3ekfShMkuPOtnKO1pRA4PdsxQPi9YtyfCjh2tA3w0uWez1pNwVEM2oMEeHu8m8NTq793aZ9hZawaKcU8EFmLCO1TWJAsmWVPebvL21ZGC-lgRT_xutAbAp0wMPseohiSuXvt44w/s1600/pentax-35mm-lens.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="35mm lens, 35mm lens for nikon, 35mm lens for canon" border="0" height="388" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh33CEax3ekfShMkuPOtnKO1pRA4PdsxQPi9YtyfCjh2tA3w0uWez1pNwVEM2oMEeHu8m8NTq793aZ9hZawaKcU8EFmLCO1TWJAsmWVPebvL21ZGC-lgRT_xutAbAp0wMPseohiSuXvt44w/s400/pentax-35mm-lens.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Although the body of a camera captures the image and stores it on either film or digital media (such as a SD memory card), it is the lens that focuses the light and adjusts the view of the image content. This is especially true with all <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm</a> SLR cameras. When new to 35mm cameras (both digital and film based) there are a few basic features regarding the camera any individual needs to know before using it.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Adjust 35mm Camera Lens Focus</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Set the SLR (or digital SLR) camera to "Manual Focus." Although most cameras have an auto-focus feature on it, the camera may tend to focus on the wrong object, especially when objects are of different distances from the camera (such as a tree in the foreground and a person in the background).</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Rotate the focus ring at the front of the camera lens. This adjusts the overall clarity of the image. The user of the camera needs to make sure to wear any corrective lenses their eyes require while using the camera. Otherwise what the individual may see as correct ends up looking blurry once processed.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Adjust <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm Camera Lens</a> Zoom</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Rotate the zoom ring on the lens. This pushes the images closer to the camera or further away. Although some lenses are "Prime" lenses, meaning it does not change focal length, standard lenses that come with 35mm cameras often allow the user the ability to adjust the focal distance.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Remove 35mm Camera Lens</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Hold down the locking button to the side of the <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm lens</a>. All 35mm cameras allow the user to remove the lens. This is helpful if someone wants to place on a telephoto lens or a lens specialized in capturing images up close (macro lens). While holding down the locking button, the individual needs to turn the lens to the left (when facing the front of the camera). The lens turns and unlocks, then pull the lens free and place it in a safe container.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Look at the top of the replacement lens. There is a small dot (usually red). Find the matching dot on the open gap where the lens connects to the camera and slide it into place. Turn the lens to the right and it locks into place.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm lenses</a> allow users of film and digital SLRs the ability to manually adjust both the focal length of a camera and the focus of the camera. This gives added control over those cameras that only give an automatic focus and digital zoom feature.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Regard!</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Introduction</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Testing a Canon EF 17-35mm f/2.8 USM L was like meeting an old friend for me. I owned this lens for several years and we went through a couple of interesting photo adventures during that time (see my portfolio section). Eventually I replaced the lens with an EF 17-40mm f/4 USM L which also marked the end of my EOS era a year later (...).</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Anyway, the lens replaced the EF 20-35mm f/2.8 L in the mid '90s and was eventually succeeded by the current EF 16-35mm f/2.8 USM L. As usual we'll have a look how this old full frame zoom performs in the APS-C DSLR scope where its field-of-view is equivalent to 27-56mm on full-frame cameras so it behaves more like a standard zoom rather than an ultra-wide lens here. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The optical design is made of 15 elements in 10 groups with two aspherical elements (one ground and one molded variant). The lens features 7 circular aperture blades. At 84x96mm and 545g it's still quite compact and relatively light weight regarding the large max. aperture. A floating system is meant to provide a constant performance throughout the focus range. The minimal focus distance is 0.42m resulting in a max. object magnification of ~1:9 at 35mm. The filter size is 77mm which is a shared entity by many f/2.8 Canon L zooms. A petal-shaped hood as well as a hard case is part of the standard package (not shown here). </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMU8hbJXPMg9m3dQ2c0JcEWQXahJVYthyjsy6ewbsEftjwGC9LxS7Ov-8xnYFwz22ONaSzyO7WLmOEVKJAo7ey1MBSUkuEgDVpLJediVar3XCY9LEzLzSDZ1P0IMLbLa7Yaphn3sl9TvTF/s1600/canon-35mm-lens-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="35mm lens, 35mm lens for nikon, 35mm lens for canon 2" border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMU8hbJXPMg9m3dQ2c0JcEWQXahJVYthyjsy6ewbsEftjwGC9LxS7Ov-8xnYFwz22ONaSzyO7WLmOEVKJAo7ey1MBSUkuEgDVpLJediVar3XCY9LEzLzSDZ1P0IMLbLa7Yaphn3sl9TvTF/s400/canon-35mm-lens-2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The build quality of this lens is very good with smooth but not overly well damped control rings. The outer length of the lens remains constant though the inner lens tube moves a little when zooming (if you look closely you may see this characteristic in the two product images above). The front element does not rotate so using a polarizer remains easily possible. The lens has a ring-type USM drive based on a front-focusing system resulting in an extremely fast AF speed. Typical for ring-type USM lenses full-time manual focusing remains possible in one-shot AF mode. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Among DSLR shooters, there are two types of people: photographers who prefer using zoom lenses and photographers who prefer using primes. I am most certainly a member of the latter group. Prime lenses use a fixed focal length, meaning you cannot "zoom in" or "zoom out" when composing your image, but most prime lenses offer superior image quality and a wider aperture range than zoom lenses. I've switched from one camera brand to another over the years, but regardless of which brand of camera I was using a prime lens was the first lens I purchased for every camera.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiWDepjmwYobK9W3RbtQ2PrdpyzUYXL13SXHXNpLPUlNaDQvF924LVXTuK0GCUe3uTPceGplt9Kfzc1vK6vFwWgXzaTi1D9lVOElZLUf8nr8qaxeObgyTAPs2G0VpFORRyKR2OwAN10GXD/s1600/Nikon+Lens+review+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="345" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiWDepjmwYobK9W3RbtQ2PrdpyzUYXL13SXHXNpLPUlNaDQvF924LVXTuK0GCUe3uTPceGplt9Kfzc1vK6vFwWgXzaTi1D9lVOElZLUf8nr8qaxeObgyTAPs2G0VpFORRyKR2OwAN10GXD/s400/Nikon+Lens+review+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Nikon is widely respected for making fantastic lenses, but in recent years Nikon has placed far more emphasis on zoom lens development than prime lenses. That's why most people where surprised when Nikon recently announced their latest lens, the Nikkor AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G prime lens. This low cost, high performance lens was designed specifically for the many Nikon D40, D40X, and D60 owners who needed a fast prime lens at an affordable price. Is the new Nikon <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm lens</a> as good as it sounds? Let's take a closer look.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>BUILD AND DESIGN</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Lens Mount</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Nikon's recent announcement of a 35mm f/1.8 prime lens with auto focus compatible with the D40, D40X, and D60 took the photography world by surprise. The AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G is a completely new design for Nikon-mount DSLRs with APS-C sized sensors (DX format). This $199 lens was developed specifically to address the lack of cheap, fast primes for owners of the D40, D40X, and D60 DSLRs.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpoEslzGQ-r440qO1k3OuvPnAugl5ucZ1dltPuMQWG1i4W_hhs1uL5naFPQRg3AKf0SiSWQyIiu30FaJMiJDPLgJOXLRPpw7M3DxpnnSfk4_Zimv0jp-cjPcuqVnuHmrE5fTGke27bNuii/s1600/Nikon+Lens+review+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpoEslzGQ-r440qO1k3OuvPnAugl5ucZ1dltPuMQWG1i4W_hhs1uL5naFPQRg3AKf0SiSWQyIiu30FaJMiJDPLgJOXLRPpw7M3DxpnnSfk4_Zimv0jp-cjPcuqVnuHmrE5fTGke27bNuii/s400/Nikon+Lens+review+2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">What separates the Nikon F mount on the D40, D40X, and D60 from all other Nikon DSLRs is the removal of the in-body focusing motor. All "AF-S" lenses use an exclusive in-lens the Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM), which means the entry-level D40, D40X, and D60 bodies can only autofocus with AF-S lenses.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Construction</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">Nikon 35mm</a> is a fast-aperture prime, designed to give DX-format Nikon users the classic normal angle of view of a 50mm lens on a Nikon FX-format DSLR or a 35mm film camera. In other words, back in the days of 35mm film cameras most manufacturers included a 50mm lenses as the "kit lens" with your new camera because 50mm was considered the "normal" focal length (similar to what the human eye sees). Today, most DSLRs come with a low-cost zoom lens as a "kit lens" but many photographers still want a "normal" prime lens with a fast aperture. That's where the new AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G comes in.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This compact lens has a solid overall build quality (much better than most lenses in the $199 price range) and takes up less space in your camera bag than the standard 18-55mm kit lens that came with the D40, D40X, and D60. The included lens hood helps shade the front lens element and prevent flare, but given the 1.5x crop factor for DX bodies and lenses, the hood could have been twice as deep (and twice as capable of reducing flare) without hurting image quality.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihxW9utvMzEIytDhxAI427m4Z1fFWaEeNvIoFAPpvQ_n9Ko2rDTizAeVd_sUve2kC_TzlAtx4WZXKjQQ8b7aK_FfpKl576MuVxzhGTgakZA8p5fdCSOcUB5zqXJUlsjw8p3qw8SCdSp0o4/s1600/Nikon+Lens+review+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="331" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihxW9utvMzEIytDhxAI427m4Z1fFWaEeNvIoFAPpvQ_n9Ko2rDTizAeVd_sUve2kC_TzlAtx4WZXKjQQ8b7aK_FfpKl576MuVxzhGTgakZA8p5fdCSOcUB5zqXJUlsjw8p3qw8SCdSp0o4/s400/Nikon+Lens+review+3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Markings such as a distance scale in both feet and meters or basic depth of field scale are completely missing from this lens. One feature that's worth mentioning is that the new 35mm lens uses fully automatic diaphragm control: you can't manually select the aperture by turning the diaphragm collar on the lens because there is no diaphragm collar.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Optical construction is all-glass with eight elements in six groups, and one aspherical element. The filter diameter for this lens is 52mm which is perfect for Nikon DSLR owners who use the 18-55mm kit lens as well.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Handling</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">As noted, APS-C style sensors in the Nikon "DX" cameras have a 1.5x crop factor, so this <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm lens</a> performs like a 52.5mm lens on DX bodies. The shorter focal length range makes this prime absolutely perfect as a "normal" lens for general use, and the f/1.8 aperture means you can create soft, blurry backgrounds or capture a great image even in near darkness.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBLvevhh6Illc2JcSZRCvaiBBa4Y39Nc1SbY_G3dwYIca5sKuOh3eWtgrMJ7Q3XGwEcMZYSwEOHUDZp8buDIZEjxStVpA_1bFtM5G4QW6mrfLTFC_86tEKeUrLKd4Da7WfY1u9AtD5HylA/s1600/Nikon+Lens+review+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBLvevhh6Illc2JcSZRCvaiBBa4Y39Nc1SbY_G3dwYIca5sKuOh3eWtgrMJ7Q3XGwEcMZYSwEOHUDZp8buDIZEjxStVpA_1bFtM5G4QW6mrfLTFC_86tEKeUrLKd4Da7WfY1u9AtD5HylA/s400/Nikon+Lens+review+6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The 35mm focal length and f/1.8 aperture has also become quite popular for photographers who are trying to replicate the look of old 50mm lenses from the old film days. The minimum focusing distance of just 12 inches means you can get close to your subject and still get a fantastic shot.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWNuTeBCfJR94K-A58hraWOIF11aF9ippY-2slTCKVZijfCmLKV4-dfWpnv3XTtdZy9ZYtLPu6AipWQN8NwMSPfdgnrFIv-KxYs0fMW4O_sVnDyWvoBdKAM370hbEwdPs6tshDWs2IUKi6/s1600/Nikon+Lens+review+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWNuTeBCfJR94K-A58hraWOIF11aF9ippY-2slTCKVZijfCmLKV4-dfWpnv3XTtdZy9ZYtLPu6AipWQN8NwMSPfdgnrFIv-KxYs0fMW4O_sVnDyWvoBdKAM370hbEwdPs6tshDWs2IUKi6/s400/Nikon+Lens+review+7.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>PERFORMANCE</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Auto Focus</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The new Nikkor <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm lens</a> is driven by Nikon's new AF-S in-lens focusing system rather than a traditional in-body screw drive focus system. This typically means focus is quieter and often faster than lenses using in-body focus motors. The new 35mm lens is indeed very quiet, but autofocus speed didn't seem particularly faster than what we've seen with older Nikkor lenses on other Nikon bodies. Still, the AF-S 35mm is quite fast and makes an excellent lens in low light environments where a standard kit lens just can't get a focus lock.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">As mentioned previously, I was somewhat disappointed in the lack of a distance scale and/or depth of field scale on the side of the lens. It would have been nice if Nikon included a simple distance scale so photographers have another way to check the focus, but to be perfectly honest most people using Nikon D40, D40X, and D60 cameras don't even know what a distance scale looks like and would never use it even if this lens had one.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Manual Focus</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Focusing manually with the new Nikon <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm lens</a> on an AF-S camera like the D40x or D60 is much easier than with older Nikon lenses and bodies. Since the lens doesn't use a screw drive for autofocus there is no need to disengage the autofocus clutch in order to use the manual focus ring. Simply turn the manual focus ring on the front of the lens to adjust focus. That said, there is a standard M/A and M switch on the side of the lens in case you want to disable the autofocus and just use manual focus. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The manual focus ring on the new <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm lens</a> isn't as smooth as what I've seen on many other primes such as the Pentax DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited. In fact, the manual focus ring on the Nikon feels rough ... almost like it's being turned over a series of stripped plastic gears. The manual focus ring has a "throw" of about 100 degrees, so moving the ring from the closest focus distance to infinity takes a little more than a quarter of a rotation.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Back to <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm Lens </a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7230031553932304787.post-27727381365432463892011-03-04T15:07:00.000+07:002011-03-04T15:08:44.353+07:0035mm lens camera<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Understanding digital camera focal lengths</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Most people are familiar with focal lengths of <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm camera lenses</a>. Digital camera manufacturers describe focal lengths in terms of the lens length on a 35mm camera that will produce a similar area of view.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Focal length on one <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">35mm camera</a> is the same for all others because the size of the film each uses is the same. Digital cameras, however, have different focal lengths because the size of their image sensors vary from one camera to another.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Expressing focal lengths in terms of 35mm equivalent makes it easier for individuals to understand so they can compare digital camera lenses.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">For example, here are focal lengths for a Nikon 5400 digital camera with a wide angle to short telephoto zoom, and the 35mm equivalent:</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLmvaejg9fKjI9KZh4u_afpsvcup8akLvjvxkK_mZU6obmcK_HVpzU9N90TvEnO2MBQz5Kve4xUt0h5iNieF55smLNNhVUC7vEKTzuGEvWEbo6aQOoo6Zkv6zrklUrTjTK2Y6lPjfFq-hc/s1600/35mm+camera+lens.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" alt='35mm lens, 35mm lens for nikon, 35mm lens for canon' src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLmvaejg9fKjI9KZh4u_afpsvcup8akLvjvxkK_mZU6obmcK_HVpzU9N90TvEnO2MBQz5Kve4xUt0h5iNieF55smLNNhVUC7vEKTzuGEvWEbo6aQOoo6Zkv6zrklUrTjTK2Y6lPjfFq-hc/s1600/35mm+camera+lens.jpg" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Zoom lengths are not all equal</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It’s important to realize that a 3x optical zoom on one digital camera may not give the same magnification as another with a 3x zoom. The Nikon 5400 has a 4x zoom, which when fully zoomed has a 116mm equivalent focal length. But Nikon 5200, which has a 3x zoom, has a 115mm equivalent focal length. Not much difference yet one is 3x and the other is 4x.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">When buying a compact digital camera, it’s important to ask the 35mm equivalent if looking for a specific focal length.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Digital single lens reflex camera effective focal lengths</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Many DSLRs have a crop factor, known as Focal Length Multiplier, which must be calculated to understand the effective focal length of a given lens. For example, a 250mm lens with a FLM of 1.6 has the effective range equivalent to 400mm.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

Specifically designed for improved edge-to-edge image quality that meets the strict requirements of professional and high-end amateur photographers alike, the lens lets you bring more area into focus while providing greater depth of field. The lens features three high-precision aspherical lens elements--ground, replica, and GMo--that produce even better image quality than the original Canon EF <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">16-35mm USM lens</a>. The circular aperture, meanwhile, produces a beautiful and natural background blur when shooting at wider apertures. Other details include internal focusing, a ring-type ultra-sonic monitor (USM), and new AF algorithms for fast and quiet autofocusing. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><span style="font-size: small;">Introduction</span></b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">Canon EF 35mm</a> f/1.4L USM, which was released in late 1998, heralded a new era for Canon's lineup of fast wide angle lenses (this lineup now includes EF 14mm f/2.8L USM, EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM and EF 24mm f/1.4L USM). Priced at about US$1,100 (as of September 2007), the lens is targeted towards professional and enthusiast photographers rather then mainstream consumers.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The optical construction of the lens consists of 11 elements in 9 groups, including a single aspherical element intended to correct spherical aberrations. Like many wide angle lenses, <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">Canon EF 35mm</a> f/1.4L USM features floating element construction which improves picture quality throughout the aperture range. The build quality of the lens is superb, as expected from a professional grade L glass - there's no wobbling inside or out, rubberized focusing ring is smooth and the lens looks and feels very sturdy. The lens offers fast and near silent ring-type USM AF as well as full-time manual focusing system, which can be controlled with an AF/MF switch located on the side of the barrel. Like other modern Canon lenses, EF 35mm f/1.4L USM does not have a dedicated aperture ring and aperture levels have to be set directly from the camera.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Like its other wide angle cousins (EF 14mm f/2.8L USM and EF 24mm f/1.4L USM), <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">Canon EF 35mm</a> f/1.4L USM is a bit 'bulky', measuring 79 x 86mm (3.1 x 3.4in) and weighing 580g (20.5oz). The minimum focusing distance is 30cm, resulting in 1:5.5 maximum object magnification at this distance, the minimum aperture level is f/22 and the filter size is 72mm. The lens sports internal focusing mechanism, so the lens cams do not extend during focusing.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />

The lens is compatible with Canon's Extension Tubes EF 12 II and EF 25 II and accepts Gelatin Holder Adapters III and IV. The factory box includes Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L USM lens, front and rear caps, EW-78C petal shaped lens hood, LP1214 soft case, manual and registration card.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Introduction</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The Nikkor AF-S DX 35 was announced at PMA 2009 and caught many by surprise. Not only because it was the only SLR related product announced by Nikon for this year's show (unlike widely expected, probably a reaction to the economic slowdown). With the currently available FX cameras on one hand and the aging range of fast Nikkor primes on the other hand many were expecting (or longing for) new full frame glass. Instead we got Nikon's second DX prime.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">As usual we'll take a look at how the lens performs on an APS-C DSLR. The field-of-view here is equivalent to a 52.5mm lens on a full frame body, so the Nikkor behaves like a normal lens on DX cameras. This market niche up to now has been populated by a single third party product only (the Sigma EX 30/1.4 HSM). One of the reasons not to make this a FX lens most likely was affordability: from the first day the lens is available for below 200,- EUR (in Germany). </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The build quality of the lens is very decent thanks to an outer barrel made out of high quality plastics. The lens looks and feels like a little brother to the recently reviewed Nikkor AF-S 50, except the 35 does not feature a distance scale.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The rubberized focus ring is slightly damped and operates reasonably smooth. However there's a little play when changing the focus direction in manual focus mode. It's minimal, but can be a little disturbing during fine tuning (for example in magnified Live View mode). In this mode, the tested lens also showed a slight shift of the whole image when the focus direction was changed, not by much, though. The effect is invisible in the viewfinder, but easily noticeable in maximum magnification in Live View.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The physical length of the lens remains constant at all focus settings (rear focus group).</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The front element does not rotate so using a polarizer remains easily possible. The filter thread has a diameter of 52 mm which is in line with most other short Nikkor primes. A dedicated (but rather short) hood with bayonet mount is part of the package, as well as a pouch to store and protect the lens. </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Being an AF-S lens the DX 35 is compatible with all current Nikon DSLRs (including the motor-free entry level cameras D40, D40x and D60). </div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Nikon have just announced a completely new, fast-aperture lens - the AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G - to be launched mid-November. The lens has been developed for the primetime reporter, aiming to deliver stunning images in all situations and every light condition, with Nikon hoping it will set a new benchmark for reportage and news photographers.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">With an entirely new optical design with ten elements in seven groups (including one aspherical glass element) and a rounded, nine-blade diaphragm Nikon claims it will "combine amazing contrast and resolution with brilliant low-light performance". This new optical design will enable the photographer to make full use of the shallow depth of field that f/1.4 aperture lenses offer.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Incorporating the Nano Crystal Coat and a Silent Wave Motor (SWM), the AF-S NIKKOR ensures quiet and accurate autofocus as well as minimising reflections and blur, ideal for night scenes and astrophotography.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This is the third f/1.4 prime NIKKOR lens which has been developed in the past six months, alongside the 24mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4 announced in August. Weighing in at a solid 600g, it is designed to balance well with FX format DSLRs such as the D700 and D3 series. Priced at £1700, the AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G lens will be on sale from 19th November</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>Features</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">* Wide 63° angle of view</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">* Fast f/1.4 aperture</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">* Aspherical lens elements</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">* USM focus motor with full-time manual focus</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">* Floating internal focus mechanism</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">* Moisture and dust seals</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">* Robust build quality </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>A classic wide-angle standard lens with fast aperture and rapid ultrasonic focusing.</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b><br />
</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>Fast aperture and swift focussing</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The EF 35mm f/1.4L USM has a maximum aperture many stops faster than that found on a standard zoom lens, allowing a photographer to keep shooting hand-held when light levels begin to fall. An ultrasonic motor (USM) enables extremely fast focusing in near silence, and a floating lens element means consistent sharpness throughout the focusing range.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Aspheric lens element</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Thanks to an aspherical lens element, the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM produces images that are distortion corrected. Consistent image quality all over the frame is ensured.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Super Spectra coating</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting – a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">L-series quality</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Integration with E-TTL II flash metering</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The lens passes distance information back to a compatible EOS camera's E-TTL II flash system to ensure optimal flash metering.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Accessories</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The lens comes supplied with a lens hood and a soft case.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b><a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">Canon EF 35mm</a> f/2 (full format)</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>Introduction</b></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Released back in 1990 the Canon EF 35mm f/2 is one of the Methusalems in the current EOS lens line-up. On full format DSLRs it's a moderate wide-angle prime lens with typical applications such as street or low-light photography. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioGLBYt9vmpCkeAJXNb5Ky_WNT6o4UivnfXRzAFfcy46dGF307ksGDMIrmHLdBwUFVGvUOJPiWozCVqrBZ8BRDpFNCE9FwpBUT4_RccKT2rRjiI4YdIeCEN5dKs5W12St3AZgR9FPMpzHF/s1600/canon-35mm-lens-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" alt='35mm lens, 35mm lens for nikon, 35mm lens for canon 2' height="362" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioGLBYt9vmpCkeAJXNb5Ky_WNT6o4UivnfXRzAFfcy46dGF307ksGDMIrmHLdBwUFVGvUOJPiWozCVqrBZ8BRDpFNCE9FwpBUT4_RccKT2rRjiI4YdIeCEN5dKs5W12St3AZgR9FPMpzHF/s400/canon-35mm-lens-4.jpg" width="400" /></a></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Regarding its construction it is closely related to its flanking brothers and sisters of that lens era, namely the EF 28mm f/2.8 and EF 24mm f/2.8. The build quality is fairly decent but it's a little dated by current standards. This is especially true for the focus ring which feels a little "scratchy". The lens extends a little when focusing towards closer distances but the front element does not rotate so using a polarizer is no problem. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />

</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The AF does rely on an old micro-motor so AF operations are a bit on the noisy side although there isn't anything to complain about regarding AF speed as well as AF accuracy. <div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It is often believed by photographers that they need to have an expensive lens to complement their expensive digital camera bodies in order to feel the full benefits of the performance that these cameras deliver. Some people may shy away from those lens that cost under $200 because the list of features is too small leading people to believe that these lens serve as significant bottlenecks of the camera’s true performance. However, Nikon has been introducing new lens for the people on a tight budget and throwing in some exciting features that make the low price questionable. Among these lenses is the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens which was announced back in Februrary ‘09.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Design & Construction</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Out of the eight wide-angle lenses currently available, the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens looks different from the rest of the pack in terms of design and construction. The budget aspect lies on its use of plastics to compose most of the design and low amount of elements with 8 in 6 groups used. The lens mount is the only metallic part of the lens while the 52mm filter threads remain plastic. The interesting thing about the overall design is that just by looking at it, it is difficult to tell what materials are used to build the lens. This means that people do not need to worry about attaching a lens that “looks cheap”. It is also easy to storage since the hood reverses onto the lens like other bayonet-mounts and it still feels pretty light because of the plastics used.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Features & Specifications</b></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The <a href="http://35mm-lens.blogspot.com/">Nikon 35mm</a> f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens is a decent choice for photographers and travelers that prefer taking photos in low-light conditions, but general photographers should be happy with this unit as well. It is one of the newer models available so the optics are generally better and with the DX logo being present, it is easy to tell that this is optimized for the DX-format DSLRs where the picture angle can be 50mm.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Those that see sharpness as a big deal will be pleased to know that the sharpness is rather good for a lens that cost $200. It is best at f/2.8 where the center is under 1.5 units and the corners under 2 blur units. Even the chromatic aberration is handled a bit better at f/2 although it still doesn’t compare well with the ones that have the ED specification.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The autofocus operation is good as well and has the Silent Wave Motor technology to ensure that it is fast, stays accurate, and operates quietly. Color consistency is good as well because of the Super Integrated Coating and aspherical lens element to minimize coma.</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
